This course articulates gender roles in one’s culture and society. Cases related to gender, culture and society are investigated and presented for discussion. The course also considers the norms of society and how it unites or contradicts the various roles exhibited by individuals. The cross-cultural perspectives of gender roles, together with the various sociological and anthropological theories, are given a major concern in the discourse. The major theme of this course material is to foster understanding and insight to such fundamental, often global issues as gender and its conception in different cultures; and its implication in development.
