The overall goal of biogeography is to provide rules and scientific laws, arising from proven theories that can account for the patterns of distributions of organisms over space and time. These rules and principles provide general framework for the understanding of our environment and can be used for predictions about the variations of organisms spatially and temporally. In other words, the ultimate goal of biogeography is to provide baseline information about the environment, which can be used as a guideline for the development of policies to manage our natural environment better for sustainable use. The course includes the environmental limitations of ecosystems; energy controls of ecosystems; biogeochemical cycles’ biogeography and biodiversity, and the impact of man on the ecosystems.
