Economics is the study of the economy and the behavior of people in the economy. Traditionally economics is divided in to microeconomics which studies the behavior of individuals and organizations at a dis aggregated level and Macro economics deals with the overall or aggregate behavior of the economy. Concepts such as inflation, unemployment and economic growth are dealt within macroeconomics.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Know the basic concepts of macroeconomics
Understand how macroeconomic activities are measured and components of national income accounting
Describe the impact of inflation on macroeconomic activities as well as its relation with unemployment
Differentiate the goods and money market and indicators of policy influence on aggregate demand and supply in both open and closed economies
Determine factors that causes shift in the goods market and money market curves
Show how the fiscal and monetary policies are effective as the slope of IS&LM gets more elastic
Describe policies that are appropriate to African economies

It will focus on the beginnings of civilization some five to seven thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, Africa, and Asia. We will then proceed to Classical Civilizations, the Middle Age and conclude the course with an understanding of the world in 1500.
