This course introduces students to the foundations of urban sociology and urban social theory. The principal questions of urban sociology focus on the emergence and growth of cities, social organization in cities, the spatial structure of cities, interaction among city residents, the impact of cities on their host regions and nations, and the consequences of urbanization. Besides, students will get an overview of developments in urban theory and the history of urbanization. Moreover, comparative analysis of  urban trends within the developed and developing world will be discussed. Finally, the course describes urban development in Ethiopia. As we examine worldwide urbanization trend along with the global force that are reshaping our daily lives and local communities, the importance of urban sociology will become increasingly apparent.
