Course Objective
To introduce the Hydraulic Steel Structures used for the construction of different types of dam at various locations, Manufacture of structural steel, forces acting on steel hydraulic structures, Types of dam gates, vertical lift gates, tainter gates, Estimation of gates weight, Design principles of hydraulic steel gates. Components of the hydroelectric and pumping plants i.e. penstocks, surge tanks etc. etc.
Course Outcome:
After completion of this course, students will able to understand about the application of Hydraulic Steel Structures (HSS) especially for dam construction site, forces acting on steel hydraulic structures. Types of dam gates i.e. vertical lift gates, tainter gates etc. Estimation of gates weight, Weight of the gate, hydrodynamic load, gate operating loads etc. Basic components of the hydroelectric and pumping plants i.e. penstocks, surge tanks etc.
