The course
introduces the broad field related to ‘Appropriate Building Technology’, appropriate architecture
and the inclusive nature of sustainable Design. Terms and basic understanding of Embodied
Energy, Life Cycle Assessment of materials, as well as sourcing, assessing and selection of sustainable
building materials will be
familiarized. Analyzing, determining a sustainable construction, knowledge about and integration
of passive design strategies, daylighting,
energy conservation, and sustainable neighborhoods are also covered and can serve for basic
application in design and construction. Lectures refer also to the local,
Ethiopian, context and will help to develop design strategies that
respond to sustainable building objectives for energy and water conservation,
reduced carbon emission and waste, ecology, health and wellbeing. Various informative materials, like
books and videos, are added to enable deeper studying.
