This course focuses on tourism development policy and planning as a process and set of techniques. It examines the environmental, economic, social, cultural and political realities of tourism planning and policy making. The emphasis of the course is also on strategic national, regional and local tourism policy and planning. In addition, the course aims to develop an understanding of tourism policy-making processes, and to gain skills in the evaluation of tourism plans and policies. Furthermore, attention will be paid to the reasons of tourism planning, the purpose of tourism planning and its barriers, the governmental frameworks at different levels, roles of global, multi-national, national, state, provincial, regional, and local tourism organizations in tourism development policy and planning.
