Course objectives: The main objectives of this course are:

  • To build students’ knowledge and understanding of soil behavior and the application of soil mechanics to the design of foundations.
  • It provides detailed design issues related to both shallow and deep foundations.
  • To introduce students to the concepts underpinning a range of ground improvement techniques and an appreciation of how these techniques are applied in practice

Course outcome: at the end of the course the students will able to

  • To apply modern soil mechanics principles and analytical techniques in designing foundation
  • To understand the relative importance of key soil parameters and how these may be derived through appropriate testing or interpretation of site investigation data for foundation.
  • To select type of foundation depending on parameters’ of soils

Course objectives

  • To provide the principles and skills for the design of safe engineering structures by conducting geotechnical site investigations.
  • To make the students familiar with engineering geological mapping.

Course outcome: at the end of the course students:

  • Will be equipped with principles, stages and methods of site investigations
  • Learn how investigations are planned and how the results of investigations relate to the design process.
  • Conduct geotechnical site investigation for different engineering structures independently.
  • Decide range of exploration & testing techniques for specific site.

Course outcome: After finishing the course students will be able to:

- Carry out advanced stability analyses of rock construction, including slopes, tunnels, caverns, mines, etc. using numerical methods

- Understand the nature of the rock bursts and seismic events in underground mines and tunnels

At the end of the course, the students will be equipped with the knowledge of solving problems related with geological factors on all engineering works (dam, tunnel, pavement, railways…..)

Course objectives: The aim of this course is to identify the different types of geophysical methods and interpret geophysical survey data

Course outcome: Students will develop a broad, integrated overview of exploration methods and the physics of waves, focusing on reflection seismic, signal processing and migration.

Course objective:  The basic objective of this course is to make familiar with the different explanations of groundwater flow to wells and the available evaluation and monitoring principles and techniques

Course outcomes: After successful completion of this course , students will be familiar with:

ü  The different ways of groundwater resource evaluation

Designing well sites and groundwater monitoring techniques

Course objective: The course is designed to make students familiar   with the basic principles in water well drilling techniques and well site selections.

Course outcomes: At the end of this course, the students will be equipped with the basic knowledge of groundwater well drilling methods and their applicability, Geological and geophysical well logging, Well development, and pump selection.
