This course covers definitions of curriculum and language curriculum; models of curriculum planning; the content model, the objective model and the process model; definitions of language syllabus; types of language syllabus: grammatical/structural, notional-functional, procedural, content-based, negotiated/process, task-based, and lexical; the framework of a language syllabus: socio-cultural context, learners, teachers, administration, setting, resources, time, testing systems, and needs analysis; types of language teaching materials: contrive, authentic and self-access; activities/tasks for developing different language skills; formative and summative evaluations; macro and micro evaluations; checklist for evaluating a unit in a course book; reasons for adapting and techniques for adapting a textbook.
